The Conferment Ceremony is arranged for those who have completed their doctoral degree to formally receive the insignia associated with this status: the hat, the sword and the diploma. In addition to this, honorary doctorate degrees will be awarded to individuals as an acknowledgment of outstanding scientific achievements or excellent service to society.
The Conferment festivities last traditionally three days. The rehearsal of the Conferment Ceremony and the Sword-Whetting Ceremony take place on Thursday 26 May 2011. The events of the actual Conferment day, Friday 27 May 2011, include the Act of Conferment, Conferment Service, Gala Dinner and a Conferment Ball. A relaxing Conferment Cruise in the Kvarken Archipelago takes place on Saturday 28 May 2011.
