Profile of Public Law in the University of Vaasa
Research within the area of public law is not limited to studying the positive constitutional & administrative law only; it reaches to the basic relationship and specific significance of law in the modern public administration and society. The modern European states of today are governed by the rule of law (Rechtsstaat) in a manner that requires interaction between legislative politics, constitutional justice and administrative rules and principles. The research of these areas of public law is enhanced by special comparative approach that ascertains that the required international and European components are well represented. International and EC law are in a central position if modern domestic legal systems are to be understood.
The comparative approach is also entertained in the area of teaching. There are special courses to enhance the student skills of comparative legal studies and methodology. The comparative flavour is additionally incorporated to the learning of all of the specific areas of public law. The program of “Law and Public Administration” differs from all of the equivalent master-programs in Finland because of its comparative emphasis. The complex relationship between law and modern public administration is both studied and researched in a manner that strives to abandon the out-dated national parochialism.
