The purpose of the Faculty is to create a nationally noticeable profile for the university and establish regional influence, derived from the internal industrial structure of the provinces in Ostrobothnia and supporting it, by offering strong technological and economic education and research that fulfils international quality requirements. The Faculty is responsible for industrial economics studies, offering computer science and industrial management as major subjects, and engineering studies in cooperation with the University of Technology, offering automation technology, electrical engineering, computer science and telecommunications engineering as major subjects. From 1.8.2004 the university of Vaasa will have the authorisation to independently confer technology degrees in the disciplines of electrical and energy engineering as well as computer science. The Faculty also has responsibility for teaching methodology science and computer science in all disciplines within the university. The Faculty's core know-how: Research into information networks, modelling information, quality of wireless communication services and radio resources control optimisation with genetic algorithms, decentralised production of electric energy, distribution and consumption of electricity, quality and technology management, technology and operations control, product development, logistics, mathematical and statistical modelling of economic and technological phenomena, electric and magnetic attributes of materials
