General Application Instructions
Applications to all five Master’s programmes in English offered by the University of Vaasa must be submitted in the University's own electronic application system. All applicants, both international and Finnish, apply to these international programmes through the electronic system.
The required application documents must be submitted to the university in Finnish, Swedish or English. All translations of the required documents are to be made by an official translator and must bear the signature and stamp of the translator. A copy of the original document in the original language must be submitted together with the translation.
Please note that photocopies are not accepted in case of TOEFL results. IELTS result sheets and other language test results may be submitted to the university as photocopies, because the university can verify the results online.
Please also note that IELTS or TOEFL test results are not accepted if they are more than two years old.
Authenticity of all submitted documents will be examined by the university when the application is received. In case of any counterfeit documents or fraudulent information, the application will be disqualified. Also, if you are granted admission, you are required to verify all information given in your application form and photocopied attachments by showing the original documents (e.g. degree certificate, transcript of university records). If you fail to submit these documents upon registration at the University of Vaasa, your admission will be invalidated.
If you have questions about the study programmes, application process or admissions criteria, please contact the International Office at the University of Vaasa by sending email to information(at)uwasa.fi.
Application
Link to the Electronic application form for Master's degree programmes is available from 1 January to 28 February at Application Forms. Please read the instructions carefully before entering the electronic application system and starting to fill in the application form. There is no application fee to the Master's programmes offered by the University of Vaasa.
The application period starts on 1 January and ends on 28 February annually. The deadline for filling in the electronic application form is on 28 February 2012 at 24.00 (local, Finnish time) and the deadline for all the documents to arrive at the University is on 13 March 2012 at 16.15 (local, Finnish time) at the latest. Exceptions cannot be made to the deadline, and late applications are not accepted in any case.
The applicants are responsible for ensuring that their application documents are delivered to the University by the deadline. The university cannot take responsibility for documents which are not submitted to the university by the deadline (e.g. language test results sent by the testing organisations which are delivered late to the university, documents lost in the mail).
The university will notify the applicant by email once the application is received and processed. Especially in the end of the application period, due to large number of applications received, the processing of applications may take more than one week, and thus the applicants may not receive the email confirmation immediately after the documents have been delivered to the university. The email will be sent after the authenticity of the application documents has been verified and the application checked in regard to the required documents.
Because of possible delays in the processing of applications, it is recommended that applicants wishing to confirm the receipt of their documents immediately after the delivery send their application to the university as registered letters or through other mail services. This way the applicants will receive a confirmation of delivery from the mail service provider immediately after the documents are delivered to the university.
The applicants are responsible for ensuring that the required documents are enclosed in the application file or will be submitted separately to the university. If the documents are submitted separately to the university, they should clearly state the name of the applicant and the programme to which the application documents are submitted.
Results
All applicants will be informed about the admission results via email by the middle of June. Individual inquiries about the results by phone or email cannot be answered. Please also note that the University cannot return the application documents to applicants after the results have been announced.
Fees
Master's degree students have no tuition fees. However, Master's degree students are required to pay the Student Union membership fee of approximately 125 euros per academic year annually. Membership entitles Master's degree students to student health care and various student discounts.
